Akarenga Building No. 5

Structure: Two-story brick construction
Year of construction: 1918

This two-story brick warehouse was constructed in 1918 as a storage facility for the Maizuru Naval District Munitions Department and was the largest warehouse of the Maizuru Naval District. It was built as the Third Torpedo Storage Facility of the Maizuru Naval District Munitions Department, and was used as an ammunition storage facility until the end of the war. A railway spur line to the naval port was laid through the interior of the warehouse.
After the war, it was used by a private warehouse company for storing barley feed, glass, and general goods. Building No. 5 is the largest and most sturdy structure in Brick Park, surpassing the construction standards of its Meiji-era counterparts.
It is currently used as an event space.
