Urban Landscape Named After Warships

Maizuru’s urban landscape was completed in 1905, the year following the establishment of the Maizuru Naval District. Among the grid-patterned streets, those running primarily from east to west are named after 33 warships of the time, including Yashima, Shikishima, Asahi, Hatsuse, and Mikasa. Each street name is a chapter in the town’s history, intertwined with the story of its naval past.
