This routes starting from Higashi-Maizuru Station, passes through the Kitasui brick tunnel, and winds around Akarenga Park. The arsenals of the former Navy were remodeled and are now open to the public as the City Commemoration Hall, a museum and other sites of interests.

Kitasui Tunnel

Kitasui Tunnel

Kitasui tunnel was built of brick on the sidetrack to the Navy port in 1904. The sidetrack was removed and changed into a road for pedestrians and cyclists. Enter a nostalgic world once you walk through the beautifully arched tunnel.

Maizuru City Commemoration Hall (Akarenga Building No.2)

This old warehouse has the distinction of being designated as a national important cultural property. It used to be one of the arsenals in 1902, but has now been remodeled into a place for communication and interaction with exhibition space, a hall, and a cafe.

Maizuru Chiegura (Wisdom Warehouse) (Akarenga Building No.3)

Maizuru Chiegura (Wisdom Warehouse) is a treasure house that reproduces the atmosphere of the late Meiji Period. The exhibition space retains the former structure of the warehouse built in 1902. The roofing tiles and wooden window frames are faithful restorations based on the original design.

World Brick Museum (Akarenga Building No.1)

World Brick Museum (Akarenga Building No.1)

The World Brick Museum was originally built for torpedo storage in 1903. It is one of the oldest existing steel-framed brick buildings in Japan, and is designated as a national important cultural property. The museum celebrates the brick's surprisingly diverse history; many bricks from around the world are also on display.
