Maizuru Port: Shaped by the Sea
– The History of a Naval Port and a Peacetime Industrial Coastal City

Maizuru Port has undergone a unique development, serving as both a naval port and a Peacetime Industrial Harbor. Established in 1901 with the construction of the Maizuru Naval Base, it became a central point for defending the Sea of Japan. After the war, it played a significant role as a repatriation port, welcoming approximately 660,000 repatriates. Today, it is designated as a Major Port and continues to make history as an international trade hub.
